.Many moons ago there was just one continent on the Earth – Pangea, which from Greek means “entire Earth”. It was surrounded by the World Ocean from all sides. Pangea broke up into two continents and the resulting crescent was filled with the Tethys Sea. Later those two supercontinents split up and formed the six continents we have today.

.A long time ago the Polar Star was of great importance for mankind. Over millennia it served as a guide for travellers as it doesn’t change its location in the sky and always points to the North. The Polar Star is very bright and 50 times larger than the Sun.

.We have found the fastest land animal on Earth. The cheetah rules here topping 70 mph. The cheetah cannot maintain this velocity for long, however.

.The gigantic squid’s eyes are larger than the eyes of any other animal that has ever existed on Earth. They reach 40 cm in diameter.

.There is a fish called the blackspot angelfish, which can change from female to male. No, it cannot do it by simply wishing to become male. The change happens for a specific reason

.In the Pacific Ocean there are about 4,000 species of fish and animals the sizes range from the big Blue Whale to the small common shrimp we eat. Overall the oceans are is 155 million Square Kilometers that’s 15 x the size of the US! It holds some of the most dangerous animals in the world like the Great White Shark which grows up to 15 feet!

.The air around a lightning bolt is superheated to about five times the temperature of the Sun. This sudden heating causes the air to expand faster than the speed of sound, which compresses the air and forms a shock wave; we hear it as thunder

.Unique Animal Record: the Oldest Animal is Tortoises. It is known to have lived as long as 188 years

In the past people laid roads and made tunnels through them. Also, they are the most long-lived on Earth. The age of some pieces is a few thousand years. Imagine they had grown out of a seed long before Christ. And they are still growing

.Antarctica is the coldest, windiest, highest and driest continent on Earth! People call it “Queen of the cold”. Antarctica is actually a desert 98 percent covered by a thick (2km) ice sheet. This sheet of ice is by far the largest body of fresh water and of ice on earth, comprising nearly 70 percent of the whole world’s total of fresh water. People in Antarctica have to breathe through special masks as even steel becomes fragile in that cold (-89,2)

.Various germs and bacteria accumulate on people’s dirty skin. Scientists have calculated that about 40 thousand bacteria can “settle down” within one square centimetre of the skin
